International Student Application Requirements

How to Apply

International students can apply for the undergraduate program with the Common Application (accepted at 600+ institutions worldwide) or Miami's International Application (no essay required).

Note: International students who are interested in applying for master's or doctorate programs at Miami should complete a Graduate School Application.

Admission Requirements for All International Applicants

• Application Fee
  • Select "Miami Fee Waiver" on the undergraduate application to waive our $75 application fee when you apply by Dec. 1 .
  • Academic records include all secondary school studies, beginning with 9th grade through the most current available at the time of application.
  • Final and official secondary school academic transcripts along with proof of secondary school graduation is required before enrolling at Miami.
  • Students who completed secondary school two or more years ago must also submit any and all external examination results (IGCSE, GCE, WASSCE, KCSE, etc.) as issued by the examining board with their applications. Official or verified results may also be requested at the time of application.
  • TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo test scores or an approved alternative proof of English language proficiency is required at the time of application. Additional English proficiency information.
  • The Financial Estimate Form will be available after submitting an admission application. The form can be found and completed on the student Application Status page.

  Required Documents for Visa

  An I-20 visa document is required to obtain a student visa and to enroll as an international student at Miami University. To receive yours, please first provide the following items:

  • Completed online Financial Support Form.
  • Documentation of financial support, such as a bank statement dated not more than one year prior to your intended date of entry. (Tax returns or letters of employment/income are not acceptable.)

  Additional Admission Information

  For First-Year Applicants

  • ACT or SAT Scores (optional)
    • ACT or SAT scores are optional, but you may use them to satisfy English proficiency requirements.
    • Your recommendation may be a letter, report from a school official, or teacher evaluation.
    • Some majors in the College of Creative Arts have portfolio, audition, or video requirements for admission.
    • You may identify your interest in admission to Miami's Honors College on your admission application.

    For Transfer Applicants

    • Midterm report and/or recommendations
      • If you’re in your first university term, we recommend submitting a mid-term report [PDF] with current grades and/or a recommendation from a university instructor. You may email these optional materials to GoGlobal@MiamiOH.edu.
      • Some majors in the College of Creative Arts have portfolio, audition, or video requirements for admission.
      • The Farmer School of Business has additional, minimum requirements for transfer admission.
      • You may identify your interest in admission to Miami's Honors College on your admission application.

      After You've Applied

      Watch for an email from Miami containing a link to your personalized Applicant Status Page.

      Use this status page to monitor your application checklist and to confirm that Miami has received all materials necessary for your application. When your admission decision is released, check your status page for a digital copy of your admission decision letter.
